| Quicksilver owner report on Low-Cost USB Audio out dongle |
"
After I broke my headphone jack on my 733 Quicksilver 10.4.3, I looked at audio cards.
The problems listed (on xlr8yourmac) (assume he's thinking of the Audio topics page articles with reports on M-Audio USB Transit, and Revolution 5.1 and 7.1 cards) and the cost made me hesitate.
Instead I found a USB Audio dongle (USB to mini-stereo connector)
from Soundmax technology part SD-102. $12.99 at Microcenter. The package doesn't list mac OS but inside instructions do.
No drivers, just change the audio out to USB in Sys Prefs. Sound is
great, seems much less distortion than
the headphone jack.

| Notes on no Classic support with Intel CPU Macs |
"
I just thought with all the talk about the new Intel chips, your
readers may want to take note that it does not appear Apple's Rosetta
technologies will support using the classic environment. So this will
be the final goodbye to OS 9.
(news.com) Intel Deal may mean End to OS9 Support

I read on your page today that Classic is not supported by Rosetta (the PowerPC emulator) on the Intel based Macs. There may be an alternative.
Users requiring MacOS 9 may still be able to use the Open-Sourced
software called SheepShaver. Although does not directly integrate OS 9 applications into the OS X GUI (as Classic does) it does run any
version of Mac OS from 7.5.2 to 9.0.4 within a Window, similar to how
Virtual PC runs Windows within a Window. Sheepshaver is available for many plattforms including MacOS X, although I cannot comment directly on compatibility with 10.4, or with Rosetta. Since it is basically just another MacOS X application, Rosetta should allow it to run on Intel Macs.

If any Intel CPU based Mac owner tries this let me know if it works.

You can find full owner reports (latest shown first) by searching the database by drive/brand/interface/mac models (the latest reports are shown first in searches).
For guides to installing CD/CDRW/DVD drives or Hard drives in many mac models, see the IDE Articles page. The Firewire articles page also has guides on case kits, installing drives, etc. If you've added a IDE, SCSI, Firewire or USB hard drive, CDRW, tape drive, etc. make sure you add a report to the database. (If you post an updated entry - make sure you use the same name, etc. as you did before so I can find your past entry. Thanks.)
(Incomplete entries are deleted. Do not post questions in the database, it's for drive reports not questions on what drive to buy - for that try searching the database for reports from owners of your mac model on the drive type/brand/interface, etc. you're interested in.)
