Online Petition for Nvidia 8800GT for pre-2008 Mac Pros
Oliver sent a link to a Online Petition for an 8800GT "for the rest of us" (pre-2008 Mac Pros - PCIe G5s can't use EFI based cards). I know petitions often don't work but it can't hurt. (There was Conflicting info on backward compatibility of the 8800GT card in yesterday's news, but safest is to assume the current card won't work until proven otherwise. Alistair, a reader from the UK said he's ordered an 8800GT card for his pre-2008 Mac Pro. He's in the UK, which showed an 8-day est. delivery on the card kit yesterday, unlike the 5-7 weeks on the USA apple store Kit.)

BTW - an Apple forum post on the subject says a mail sent on this issue to Steve jobs got a reply (not verified - like Bill Gates I suspect mail sent to Jobs is really read/answered by staff)

"I suggest you calm down. Everyone knows the issue and it is being worked.
-Steve
And again time will tell if there's really a compat. issue and if so, if Apple will address this. Although sadly, compatibility with last year's model has not been a priority for apple based on past history, even in cases where a card from the latest model could work in a previous model. (i.e 802.11n mini-PCIe cards which thousands of readers used in older Macbook Pros OK, yet dealers were warned/paranoid to even sell to end users). But this is a kit they sell on the apple store and I hope either works as is or that apple will release an update to make it work in previous models.

AL iMac owner report on Maya 7.0 problems after Graphics Firmware Update
(late posting this - anyone else running Maya on an AL iMac see this?)

"(Graphics) Firmware update for (AL/2007) iMac causes Maya to freeze the Mac. Mouse movement unaffected, but no input is possible.
Hard reboot required. Very annoying.
(I asked for more details - Maya version, OS X version, etc)
Maya version 7.0
Graphics card firmware update - most recent version (iMac Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 released Nov. 15th)
iMac 20in, 2.4 GHz, 2GB RAM running OSX 10.4.11

Express34 Card Reports page updated
I've updated the page of MacBook Pro owner reports on Express34 Cards with a MacBook Pro/OS X 10.5.1 user's notes/xbench disk tests on an A-DATA SSD E-704 32GB (solid state/flash memory card). He noted problems with sleep mode also. (There's an Oct. 2007 report there on another brand of 32GB SSD card also.)
