Reminder for 2009 Mac Pro owners to check Northbridge Heatsink Retainers
Saw another post in the apple forum thread on 2009 Mac Pro NB Heatsink retainer failures and wanted to remind owners to check for this as the retainers age and are more prone to fail. (Shut the mac pro down, the remove the side cover, unlatch the CPU tray and pull it out to verify the black plastic retainers are still on the Northbridge Heatsink. Last month a reader said repairing the retainers fixed two 2009 Mac CPU boards he had bought cheap (as failed parts). Also something to check if you're buying a used 2009 Mac Pro.
FYI on Nvidia CUDA 6.5.33 for OS X Download Page:
On Tuesday (Jan 6th), Nvidia posted a download page for CUDA 6.5.33 for OS X, which was available via their Prefs Panel back on Dec. 19th. Noticed the CUDA 6.5.33 page has a note:
"This driver does not support GeForce GTX980 and GTX970. Please download the equivalent CUDA 6.5.32 which supports GeForce GTX980 and GTX970"
(It's not linked on that page but here's the CUDA 6.5.32 for OS X D/L.)
Unless they revised CUDA 6.5.33 without changing the version number, some users noted it didn't support the (Dec. 22nd) Nvidia 343.02.01 driver update for Yosemite. (I don't have a Mac running Yosemite/Nvidia card to try it but previous posts had notes on CUDA file edits for the problem. Hopefully one day they'll sync new OS X Graphics driver and CUDA update releases.)
