| Apple posts Security Update 2008-002 v1.1 for Leopard/Leopard Server |
Spotted this at Apple's downloads page today (It does not show in Software Updates on my AL iMac w/10.5.2 with original Security Update 2008-002 installed).
(Update - from Apple's security docs mailing list the next day) Here's the info on the "version 1.1" changes from Apple:
"Security Update 2008-002 v1.1 addresses reliability issues with the "Printer Settings..." button in Aperture 2.0 on systems running Mac OS X v10.5.2. No applications other than Aperture 2.0 are affected. This update is only for systems with:
- Mac OS X v10.5.2 and Aperture 2.0 and Security Update 2008-002
- Mac OS X v10.5.2, but Security Update 2008-002 has not been installed
There is no change to the security content provided in Security Update 2008-002. The security content of Security Update 2008-002 and Security Update 2008-002 v1.1 is available from:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1249..."
Download pages at Apple:
I was curious if the v1.1 update (download) would install on my previously updated 10.5.2 boot drive (or if it'd say it wasn't required) - it will. Requires a restart after update.

| Can't reapply OS X 10.5.2 Combo Update after TM/Airport Update 1.0 |
(Updated - see below for notes that it is the recent TM/Airport update that is the cause of the 10.5.2 Combo update refusing to install due to build check not matching.)
A reader yesterday mentioned after seeing some issues with the recent TM/Airport updates he wanted to reapply the 10.5.2 Combo Update (from download updater - reinstalling combo updates is an old tip for those w/issues with current updates) but the installer script reported the volume did not meet the requirements. After getting another report on this same issue from a friend this morning I decided to try it on my (fully current) 10.5.2 install on my AL iMac. I hadn't tried to reinstall 10.5.2 Combo updater since orginally downloading/applying it but this morning I used my saved copy of the OS X 10.5.2 Combo Updater and I see the same thing here (AL iMac w/10.5.2 and all latest updates applied)
"! You cannot install Mac OS X Update Combined on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update." Several readers verified the 10.5.2 Combo update will reapply if the Airport/TM update hasn't been installed (confirming other post-10.5.2 updates were not the culprit). Here are some replies noting the TM/Airport 1.0 Update modified the OS X build number, which is checked by the Combo Update pre-install script. (Hopefully apple will revise the Combo 10.5.2 updater download to allow a reinstall - not tried any mods to the combo installer to edit the build check)
"The Airport/TM update modified the kernel and precludes reinstalling 10.5.2
If you seriously need to reinstall 10.5.2, use TM to roll back to before the Airport/TM update, or wait until Apple does something to fix this known issue...
-Nerowolfe"
And another reply noted the Airport/TM update revised the build number which is checked by the Combo Updater:
"
Mike, From what I have read the Time Machine and Airport Update changes the build from 9C31 to 9C7010 which the Combo Update will not recognize as an eligible OS for updating. There is considerable comment on the web about it indicating it is apparently caused by the Time Machine & Airport Update. I have filed feedback in General Feedback, Developer Feedback, and by telephone. -Ken" |

| PowerMac G5 Coolant Leaks page updated |
I've updated the page here on PowerMac G5 Coolant Leaks with a follow-up from a leaking G5 tower owner saying (like some other readers have, but not all) - he's getting a new Mac Pro but in his case he's getting it for the cost Apple quoted him originally on a repair. (His repair estimate was under $1000 - much lower than some others that didn't catch the leak until it had damaged the motherboard, CPU, PS, etc.). Some other readers have also been lucky to have out-of-warranty systems replaced with a Mac Pro base system (often parts have been hard to get). More than few got satisfaction after pressing the issue/repeated calls. (Page includes links to photos of Delphi and Panasonic LCS, some DIY repair info if caught before leaks damage PS, logic board, etc..)
