Late 2013 Mac Pro Disassembled (Socketed CPU is Upgradeable)
OWC had Teardown photos of the 2013 Mac Pro that shows they're still using a socketed CPU. And they later confirmed the 2013 Mac Pro's CPU is Upgradeable by swapping in an 8-Core, 3.3GHz w/25MB cache processor. (See link for pix, notes and benchmarks.)
They later posted a table of 2013 Mac Pro CPU Upgrade Benchmarks with stock 3.5GHz/6-Core vs 3.7GHz/6-Core, 3.3GHz/8-Core and 3GHz/10-Core CPUs via DIY installs. There are separate Tables of CPUs/scores with 16GB RAM and 64GB RAM installed. On Jan. 14th, they posted Benchmarks with a 12-core 2013 Mac Pro. (They also had a List of compatible Xeon CPUs for 2013 Mac Pros.)
How-To Video on 2013 Mac Pro CPU Upgrade: (Jan. 2014)
OWC's 2013 Mac Pro upgrade videos had a Step-by-Step Video on 2013 Mac Pro CPU Upgrades. Video is available in 3 sizes. (An old tip for applying thermal paste was to use a sandwich baggie over your finger - keeps skin oils off the surfaces and your hands clean.)
(April 2014 Update: They now offer a Turnkey CPU Upgrade Service for Late 2013 Mac Pros.)
2013 Mac Pro Internal SSD Upgrades (1TB to 4TB) (updated Jan. 2016)
OWC had Late 2013 Mac Pro SSD Upgrades of 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB. (Page noted these include a USB 3.0 External Case to reuse the original 2013 Mac Pro SSD/flash drive.)
2013 Mac Pro and USB 3.0 Hubs:
Not sure how many this affects (as there's been issues with some USB 3.0 hubs with other Macs), but a reader asked I post a FYI on an issue booting a new Mac Pro (Late 2013) if a USB 3.0 Hub was connected at powerup. His notes on tests with two USB 3.0 hubs are in this Apple forum thread on New Mac Pro (late 2013) USB 3.0 hub issue during boot. However later replies in that thread from other Late 2013 Mac Pro owners said they've not seen any issues with USB 3.0 hubs, including one owner using the same hub model.
