The powered ("Active") Adapter has a USB cable attached for connecting to a powered USB port or a USB wall charger. The Cable Matters active adapter specs lists 2560 by 1440 @60Hz as a supported resolution, which is the native resolution of the 27" LED Cinema Display.

(BTW: Lots of problem reports from M1 Mac owners using Adapters. I wonder if it's related to the M1 chip's energy saving design. Energy Saver settings didn't seem a fix for those with problems.)
