Apple Pro Display XDR Firmware Update 2.2.2 (and Tips)
(Tips for Fixing Missing Presets after Firmware Update, and update not appearing.)
Info from Apple's What's new in firmware updates for the Pro Display XDR.
Learn about changes and features included in Display Firmware 2.2.2
(The 2.2.2 update is from March 2020, later versions exist now.).
When a firmware update is available for your Pro Display XDR, you might be prompted to restart to apply the update. Otherwise, the update is applied the next time you disconnect and reconnect your display from power or your computer.
Display Firmware 2.2.2
Adds support for customized Pro Display XDR reference modes that you can tailor to specific workflow needs by setting color gamut, white point, luminance, and transfer function options.
Learn more. (link is to "Use reference modes with your Pro Display XDR")
Minor stability improvements.
Check your firmware version
To check the firmware version of your Pro Display XDR, choose Apple menu > About This Mac, click System Report, then click Graphics/Displays. In the Pro Display XDR section, the firmware version is listed next to Display Firmware Version.

Tip for Missing XDR Display Presets after a firmware update
Several owners said their Pro Display XDR were Missing Presets after the update.
Here's a tip that some said helped restore the Display Presets:
"Missing Presets Solution: Disconnect the power supply from the display for at least 30 seconds. It may also be necessary to restart the computer."
Tip if you're not seeing the XDR Display Firmware Update
Saw some reports in the Apple forum on XDR Display not updating to 2.2.2.
Here's a reply from an XDR owner that was finally able to update to v2.2.2 firmware:
"
Apr 1, 2020 6:11 PM (bold emphasis added)
This afternoon as a result of posting on this forum the problem of my Apple Pro XDR display not updating to the new firmware (2.2.2) an Apple Support Agent reached out to me by phone. She carefully took down everything that I had done, collected a variety of system reports including one specific to the Pro XDR display, and promised to escalate the case to a Senior Support Specialist.
She also asked me to click on the Apple->About this Mac->Software Update->Advanced and check Install System Data Files and Security Updates (which had not been checked).
Tonight I sat down to do some image editing in Lightroom. I woke my Mac Pro from sleep and tried to connect to my NAS server where all of my image files are saved. I found that I could not connect to the NAS. This has happened occasionally in the past and I have always solved it by restarting the Mac Pro and then connecting to the NAS. However, before I could restart the Mac Pro I had a fleeting glimpse of a message in the top right of the Pro XDR display that disappeared before I could read it. When I restarted the Mac Pro the display remained dark and did not turn on. After over 1 minute of waiting, I did a power button forced reboot of the Mac Pro. The Mac Pro booted and the display was very slow (ca. 1 minute) to turn on, but when it did appear all seemed normal. I went to Apple Menu -> About This Mac->System Report->Graphics/Display and saw that my display was now on firmware version 2.2.2, so somehow during all of this the firmware update had finally been accomplished. And, yes, I could readily connect to my NAS after this reboot.
I would suggest checking Install System Data Files and Security Updates as described above to anyone having a problem getting their Pro XDR display to update its firmware. "
