Apple Xprotect Update Blocks Older OS X Java Web Plugins
Apple was finally blocked Java versions older than the last OS X Java Updates of June 18th. (Revised docs in today's listing below, although they could have been more clear, as there's no new Java updates since the versions listed below that were released in June.) Here's a copy of their security mail (Aug 30th) regarding blocking Java Web plugin versions older than the current (June 18th released) versions:
"APPLE-SA-2013-08-29-1 OS X: Java Web plug-in blocked
Due to multiple security issues in older versions, Apple has updated the web plug-in blocking mechanism to disable all versions prior to:
Java 6 update 51
Java 7 update 25"
Again, Java 6 update 51 and Java 7 Update 25 were released on June 18th, 2013. (There were revised builds of Apple's posted Java 6 Update 51 for OS X 10.6.x and OS X 10.7/10.8 to fix bugs in the initial release - version number was not changed, only the build number. Our linked page includes info on how to check if you have the fixed/later build number.)
