BTW: After seeing (rare I assume) posts about DVD Player problems in OS X 10.9.4 and problems playing Audio CDs in an Apple USB Superdrive (with 10.9.3 and 10.9.4), I tested a 2012 Mini (with no 3rd party addons/mods other than SSD TRIM) running OS X 10.9.4 using HDMI (to AVR/HDTV) OK. Using a USB Superdrive (connected directly to mini), I played Audio CDs (PCM mode) and DVDs (episodes of "Breaking Bad" S4, 2011's "Drive" movie, DVD player set to Bitstreaming 5.1) without any problems.
   I do still see the same (2 second or so) black screen (twice) at boot and wake from sleep which I've always chalked up to HDMI handshaking. It doesn't happen during normal use however. (Here's the previous article my Mac Mini 5.1/7.1 Surround Sound setup via HDMI/AVR/HDTV.)

(For the record, if I could run 10.6.8 on that 2012 Mini I would. Rosetta was more useful for me than anything added in OS X 10.7-10.9.)
