I take that sentence to mean few would have a purchase date that is still less than 4 years ago. Not sure if Apple Customer Relations would be of any help but the article has a Contact Apple link with phone numbers by country. (If it were up to me, any MBP with one of these GPUs would have gotten a motherboard replacement.)
