Because of improvements in macOS security, the Security & Privacy Preferences may open during the installation process. If it does, click "Allow" in order for the NVIDIA Graphics Driver to load, then return to the Installer and click "Restart".

An alternative method to download the latest CUDA driver is within Mac OS environment. Access the latest driver through System Preferences > Other > CUDA. Click 'Install CUDA Update'.
Note: this driver does not support the older generation GPUs with compute capability 1.x. To find out the compute capability of your GPU, consult the following links:
FYI: Despite not listing macOS 10.12.x support, a Mac Pro tower owner replied he's using CUDA 9.0.222 in macOS 10.12.6 and had previously run CUDA 9.0.214 in 10.12.6. (He's currently running macOS 10.12.6 build with Security Update 2017-001 and updated Nvidia web driver 378.05.05.25f03.)
